Dr. Marc Steinberg is Associate Professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Associate Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry. He is a clinical psychologist and his research focuses on cognitive behavioral approaches to smoking cessation and motivational interviewing interventions to encourage lower motivated smokers to initiate quit attempts.
In addition, Dr. Steinberg is interested in task persistence as a mediator of quit attempts and successful cessation. Dr. Steinberg's research group has focused on populations suffering tobacco related health disparities such as smokers with mental illness and smokers from lower socioeconomic status. Dr. Steinberg serves as the Chair of the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School's Department of Psychiatry Research Committee, Chair of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco's Treatment Network Communications Committee, and is an Associate Editor of the international peer-reviewed journal, Nicotine & Tobacco Research.
