Professor Durante's research focuses on the evolution of human behavior and the historical forces that shape motivations and behavior in the here-and-now. An understanding of the biology behind people's desires helps her recommend effective ways we can improve our lives, and how marketers can engage consumers.
Prior to becoming a professor, she spent nearly a decade as an entertainment publicist in NYC and Los Angeles. Although her job was all about influencing behavior and manipulating perceptions, she came to realize that she lacked a deep understanding of what makes people tick. She began reading about the evolution of human nature in an attempt to become a better publicist. Instead she ended up finding a true passion as a research scholar.
Professor Durante combines theory and research in social psychology, evolutionary biology, and consumer decision-making. Her work has been published in the leading academic journals in marketing, psychology, and biology. She routinely speaks about her life and her research across the globe, including a recent TEDx talk. Her studies have been featured in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Chicago Tribune, as well as hundreds of other media outlets worldwide.
