Professor Baker received his Ph.D. from MIT. His interests include comparative syntax, linguistic universals, semantic syntax and Amerindian and African languages. Recent books written include Lexical Categories, Cambridge University Press, 2005; and Atoms of Languages, Basic Books, 2001.
