Nydia Flores' line of inquiry explores two interrelated avenues in the field of sociolinguistics: the use of Spanish in society and Spanish language education. She prepares pre- and in-service language teachers and future linguists to understand how languages are used by individuals and a speech community, and how language use should guide their practices and research. In addition to investigating language variation and change in Spanish, she also investigates pragmatic variation in the use of several Spanish features.
